Welcome to Week 6. You may have noticed a bit of a theme over the last few weeks. That’s because we are training your dog to stay on one spot without being right with you all the time, on command of course. We want to train your dog to be able to listen to commands and stay in that state, while you even walk away out of sight. And ONLY when you give them your release command, they must stay in that state. Staying focused and remembering that you gave them a command is the purpose of these exercises. Start by watching the videos first, so you know what to expect to accomplish this week. All your lessons are explained in great detail in the Resource File for this week. I highly recommend you print out the Resource File and keep it handy as you perform the commands this week.
We have taught your dog to Stay before and we also required your dog to Stay on his bed with distance, duration and distractions, but now we need your dog to be able to do this anywhere, not just on his bed.
Lesson 15:
Adding Distance, Duration And Distractions To Stay
Adding Distance, Duration And Distractions To Stay
After this exercise your dog should be able to remain in the “Stay” position while you leave the room and no matter the distractions, remain where he is, till you release him.
Keep practicing these commands all week. When you feel that your dog is ready you can move on to the Final Exam!
